Wahl Blades - Feel the difference

When looking for high quality blades you want to look at three factors:

1. Material;

2. Teeth;

3. and Geometry.

1. Material

Be cautious of fancy claims of titanium, ceramic and some types of stainless steel as they might not be as impactful as the hype suggests.

  • Titanium is a coating on a standard steel blade, it does not add durability or strength. It will also wear off over time.
  • Ceramic blades can be made to be very sharp, but unfortunately ceramic is very brittle. And because of this even the side-to-side movement of the blades can cause chipping, which will ruin the cutting performance.
  • Be cautious of low-grade stainless steel. Stainless steel is available in different grades, the lower the grade, the lower the quality. You will want to look for a high grade stainless steel.

Wahl has been studying metals for over 95 years. We use the perfect combination of stainless steel and high carbon steel that gives our blades a specific Rockwell-hardness that ensures the blade will hold an edge and keep it for a very long time.

2. Teeth

The teeth, or rather the manufacturing process to make the teeth is an important factor in determining the quality of a blade. Many competitors will stamp their blades, these stamped blades are formed by a giant dye stamping the teeth shape into them. A softer metal must be used to be stamped as a dye cannot handle harder Rockwell-metals. Typically a coating is added after stamping to strengthen the blade. However, Wahl grinds their teeth allowing us to use higher Rockwell-hardness metal. Grinding the teeth creates a pyramid shape to our blade teeth, this helps in feeding the hairs and supports the cutting performance we are known for. Grinding also minimizes burs or tiny pieces of left over material to be stuck to the blade, giving it a sharp and clean edge.

3. Geometry

The shape of the blade has a significant impact on the longevity of the cutting performance. When holding a blade under a microscope one can see a unique geometry that maximizes cutting efficiency. The way in which the blades wear allow them to stay sharp for a very long time. This is why we can offer a 5 year warranty on all of our USA made products.
